the cut and paste style and incorporating the brass section really works out for him.įat old sun is one of the few things from before DSOTM that David still plays in concert I believe (I think its just that and astronomy. ![]() I believe "breast milky" "mother fore" "funky dung" the stuff that's jammy on the "breathe" and "any colour." changes. the quiet middle sections of the suite which are a little more jammy are the best. since then I've given it much more of a chance and its grown on me. I used to hate it, but back when we had the album showdown a few months ago some of you guys really sold me on it. Please Share your opinions!ĪHM is difficult to approach. Overall I think Atom Heart Mother Is an underrated classic! This entire album makes me feel like i'm laying on a endless grass field in a country setting. Although probably ranked last on the album by most people, I still think it's a great song. And the transition from Acoustic to electric in this song was an awesome surprise.Īnd finally "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast" was a very interesting Instrumental on the album. "Fat Old Sun" Is my favorite song off this album, it proves David Gilmour can be a great songwriter. "Summer 68'" Is a song that really captures the brilliance of Rick Wright. "If" is quite an interesting Roger Waters song, it's unlike other songs that feature his vocals and it's wonderful. "Atom Heart Mother" is long, but a unique and great instrumental song. I think it's by far the best album of the experimental years. The best CD version I have heard is the 1994 remaster, the original CD (1987) has virtually no treble at the top end and the 2011 remaster is also disappointing.I gave the the album my first real listen through today. I have loved this album since first hearing it a few years after it was released. Each track is a miniature marvel in itself. There are also 3 songs, one each from Waters, Wright and Gilmour each very different in style and all sung by their respective writers. There is some extreme weirdness towards the end but I think the whole thing works wonderfully. After the grand opening theme with brass there is a meltingly beautiful cello solo with keyboards that sets the high standard for the rest of the piece. It is a brilliant fusion of rock band with brass and choral elements composed/arranged by Ron Geesin. The whole of the 1st side of the original album was the title track 'Atom Heart Mother' a single work with 6 named sections. If this last track had been left off, you would still have had an album release only a minute or so shorter than the average for the time. The track 'Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast' is the weakest track on this album and really is not much more than filler for an otherwise utterly brilliant album.
